Karen Hughes is a local native to the Yampa Valley. Along with her husband Fred from the shores of California, and three sons; Nicko, Gunnar, and Skyler, reside on their ranch looking down on the beautiful Elk River Valley all the way to Steamboat Ski Mountain – a view they are blessed to have.
Karen’s past experience (10 years) as a land surveyor makes her uniquely qualified to help in the design and marketing of large land parcels. Her hands on experience in the development and the process it takes to bring a land project through planning and platting is a definite plus.
Karen has brokered and been involved with several historic transactions, some notably being the “iconic” Steamboat Barn, perhaps one of the most famous barns in the ski and board world. Another is the Hazie Werner home, where Olypian skiiers Buddy and Skeeter Werner were raised, and the Hereford Haven Ranch west of Steamboat Springs one of the premier Hereford ranches in the early days of Routt County. Karen enjoys the history of this valley and its people and has been active in assisting the Routt County Historic Society where ever she can.
Owning a ranch has given her the background in agriculture aspects and issues along with the very important issues of water and water rights.
Being involved with building and excavating from the ground up has also proven to be an invaluable asset in buying and selling homes of all sizes, shapes and colors! She enjoys working with all aspects of real estate including condos, town homes, single family homes, and river properties.
Often described as “sunny and authentic” Karen Hughes brings much to the Steamboat community, to her real estate profession and to the Prudential Steamboat Realty office.
Karen and Fred are dedicated advocates for Buyers and Sellers alike.
* The Yampa Valley Curse: Local lore holds that if you live in the Steamboat area and leave, you will forever want to return and will not find happiness in any other place.
